Congratulations!

Why pursue a career in nursing?

Nursing involves caring for individuals and families across their lifespans, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention as well as treatment. Nursing is a profession that provides opportunities for specialization, leadership and decision-making within many different health care settings, at every level from local to international. The nursing profession allows for collaboration with a range of other health-care professionals, in an occupation that confers respect as well as substantial salaries.

Why Laurentian University?

Located in Sudbury, the health-care centre of northeastern Ontario, Laurentian is a medium-sized, bilingual university with a very favourable student/professor ratio. Set on 750 wooded acres only minutes from downtown Sudbury, the Laurentian University campus combines excellent outdoor recreational features with superb educational facilities.

Laurentian University's School of Nursing courses are offered in both English and French. Clinical nursing placements are available in leading north-eastern Ontario health-care centres and agencies, all accessible from campus.

What will I study?

The Laurentian University School of Nursing curriculum combines courses from the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences with preparation in the theory and practice of nursing. Clinical experiences in hospitals and community health-care agencies during your program enable you to put into practice the knowledge and skills learned in classes. You will have the opportunity to work with physicians, dieticians, physiotherapists, and members of other health-care disciplines.

Congratulations

The School of Nursing at Laurentian University congratulates Branden Shepitka and Jamie Kyriacou on their appointments to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Nursing Students' Association (CNSA). The Canadian Nursing Students' Association (CNSA) is the national voice of Canadian nursing students. Branden Shepitka has assumed the position of President, and Jamie Kyriacou the position of Ontario Regional Director, for one year (April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011).

Branden Shepitka is entering his fourth year of the BScN program at Laurentian University. Jamie Kyriacou is entering her third year. The School of Nursing is very proud to have two such role models in its program.
